Updates — Puentes Matamoros

Every change that matters, newest first. Privacy comes first: when a change affects what the app does with your location or any other data, it is marked here and the privacy notice is updated the same day.

Opening the app no longer looks at your location

Only if your phone passed a bridge zone in the last 3 hours.

When it opened, the app looked at the location the phone already had, to know whether you were already in a line. It didn't turn on the GPS or record the place, but it did it every time, wherever you were, and on iPhone that could show the location icon at home. Now it does it only if the phone entered a bridge zone in the last 3 hours. It arrives as an app update, without going through the store.

iPhone: the location icon when opening the app

We found it, explained it in the privacy notice, and the next update removes it.

With measuring on, each time the app opened or iOS woke it, the system that watches the bridge zones asked iOS whether the phone was inside each zone. To answer, iOS briefly checked the location, wherever you were: that's why the location icon showed up at home. No place was recorded, only "inside" or "outside" for each zone, on your phone. The next iPhone update stops asking when the app opens and asks only when you switch measuring on or tap "Probar la detección". Measuring at the bridge works the same. Android is not affected.

    Puentes Matamoros in English

The bridges page and each bridge's page, now in English too.

The wait times, filters, app and resources at bravotechsystems.com/puentes-matamoros, and on each bridge the 12-hour chart and typical wait, now in English too. Switch at the top with English / Español.

  4. Android and iPhone

    Did you cross by SENTRI?

A crossing far faster than the regular line no longer counts in it.

GPS can't tell apart lines that run side by side, and the app uses the line you chose, which starts as the regular one. A SENTRI crossing marked regular made Tomates show 2 minutes while the regular line was at 70. Now a crossing like that doesn't count in the regular line, and the app asks which line you took: if it was SENTRI, it counts there and your next crossings are saved as SENTRI.

  5. Android and iPhone

    What's new, in Configuración

This page, one tap away in the app.

At the end of Configuración, “Novedades” opens this list of changes in the app's language.

Location is used only in a bridge's line

Opening the app no longer turns on the GPS.

We found the app was using your location away from the bridges. Opening it took a GPS reading, and two features woke it all over town: the live card while driving and the alerts based on which side of the border you are on. Now the GPS turns on only when your phone enters a bridge's line, or when you switch measuring on or test detection yourself. The live card while driving was removed, and side-of-the-border alerts go by your last measured crossing. On Android it arrives with version 1.2.0.

  7. Android, iPhone and Website

Every lane in its own color on the chart

Regular, SENTRI, full SENTRI, Express and on foot no longer mix.

The 12-hour chart put crossings from different lanes into one dot, so an 8-minute SENTRI crossing pulled down a 2-hour regular line. Now each lane has its own color: the line is CBP's time and each dot is a crossing measured with the app.

  8. Android and iPhone

A crossing that started as the app was installed no longer counts

A half-measured time doesn't change what others see.

If someone installs the app while already in line, the app can't see when they joined, and the time comes out shorter than it was. That crossing stays in their history but no longer counts in the community's times.

  9. Android

Android measures your crossings without opening the app

Version 1.2.0, on its way through Google Play.

Android would put the app to sleep and report reaching a line late. An always-running service keeps it ready, as on iPhone; that is why you will see a permanent Puentes notification. The service doesn't ask for your location: the GPS still turns on only in a bridge's line.

  10. Android and iPhone

    Test detection

Checks in half a minute whether your phone can measure crossings on its own.

In Configuración. It checks permissions, location and the bridge zones, and tells you what is missing for measuring to work without opening the app.

  11. Android and iPhone

The hand-typed wait report was removed

Community times come only from measured crossings.

A typed number can't be checked. From now on community times come only from crossings the app measured from start to finish, and crossings of up to seven hours count, not three.

  12. Android and iPhone

Pulso, and how fast your line was

The community's activity in one tab.

Pulso shows how many people used the app in the last 7 days and the readings of the last hour. Each measured crossing now says whether the line was fast, slow or very slow.

  13. Android

    Android fixes

Scrolling, dark-mode switches and a theme choice.

Long screens scroll properly, switches show in dark mode, and you can choose a light or dark theme. Maps show from build 14.

Version 1.1.0 sent to the App Store and Google Play

The first version for the stores.

Automatic crossing measurement (optional), alerts, CarPlay and Android Auto. Before sending it we closed the server's internal functions to outside callers and stopped sending notification tokens when alerts are read.

  15. Android and iPhone

    The app in English

It follows your phone's language, or choose it in Configuración.

The whole app, the alerts, CarPlay, Android Auto and the widget speak English on English phones.

We tell you when a crossing is being measured

One notification when it starts and another when it is recorded.

So you know when the app is using your location. Turn it on or off in Configuración with “Avisarme al medir”. That day we also published the privacy notice in English, with Spanish a click away.

  17. Android and iPhone

Crossings on foot, dark mode and a welcome

The app asks how you cross.

Crossings on foot are measured along their own path at a walker's pace, and Puente Viejo's Express lane on its own. Dark mode was added, and a welcome to choose how you cross.

  18. Android, iPhone and Website

    Redesign: one number per bridge

And the time in line is measured, not the drive to it.

The app and the site were redesigned to read at a glance. A measured crossing counts the time in line, without the drive to get there, and finished crossings are no longer lost.

  19. Privacy · iPhone

    Live card while driving (removed)

Optional. Removed on November 3, 2026.

It showed the waits on CarPlay when you started driving, without opening the app. To notice you were driving it used your location in the background anywhere; that is why we removed it.

  20. Privacy · Android and iPhone

    First version of the app

Optional GPS measurement, CarPlay and Android Auto.

The waits for all four bridges on your phone and in your car, and the option to measure your crossing anonymously. The first privacy notice was published.

CBP wait times on the site

    Matamoros's four bridges, live.
